OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON THE IMPEACHMENT OF THE EXECUTIVE PRESIDENT OF THE STUDENTS' UNION GOVERNMENT, EBONYI STATE UNIVERSITYBy Distinguished Senator Marvelous ElochukwuSenate President, 27th AssemblyMy dear Ebonyi State University students,Yesterday, June 13, 2026, the Senate of the 27th Assembly of the Students' Union Government exercised its constitutional responsibility by impeaching the Executive President of the Students' Union Government, Comrade Chika Abraham Nwuhuo.I understand that this decision has generated reactions and discussions across the university community. As your Senate President, I consider it important to explain why the Senate took this action and why we believe it was necessary in the interest of Ebonyi State University students.First and foremost, this impeachment was not motivated by personal differences, political rivalry, or any desire to witch-hunt anyone. It was the outcome of months of observations, complaints, petitions, consultations, and deliberations regarding the state of the Students' Union Government and the performance of the administration.Let me make it clear that this matter did not begin yesterday. Several petitions were submitted against the Executive President by stakeholders within the Students' Union Government. In response to these petitions and other concerns, the Senate invited the President on multiple occasions to appear before the legislative arm and address issues relating to his administration.Unfortunately, he repeatedly failed to honour these invitations and refused to appear before the Senate. This was not the first invitation extended to him. Time and again, opportunities were provided for engagement, clarification, and accountability, yet those opportunities were ignored.It is also important to state that the Senate's decision was not based on the fact that student leaders were not receiving money, as some people may choose to believe. The issue goes far beyond that. The reality is that after almost eight months in office, there is little that students can point to as a significant achievement of this administration.The Students' Union Government exists to advocate for students, engage management, defend students' interests, and improve student welfare. Yet throughout this administration, students have continued to face numerous challenges without the level of representation and advocacy expected from their elected leadership.Issues relating to NELFUND, the cancellation of the Medical Students' Mock Examination, and several other student concerns demanded strong intervention and advocacy from the Students' Union Government. Unfortunately, the administration failed to rise to these responsibilities.Many students have genuine concerns affecting their welfare, academics, and campus experience. However, rather than witnessing active advocacy and purposeful leadership, students have largely been presented with publicity materials, photographs, and monthly flyers that create the appearance of activity without corresponding results on the ground.The truth is that leadership is not measured by posters, social media updates, or photographs. Leadership is measured by impact, representation, advocacy, accountability, and service to the people.The Senate was also deeply concerned by the administration's handling of the Union's finances and budgetary processes. The budget prepared for the Union was not subjected to the complete legislative process required by the Constitution. Instead, the budget remained inaccessible to the legislative arm, preventing the Senate from carrying out its constitutional oversight functions.As a consequence, no member of the 27th Republic or the 27th Assembly had access to funds necessary for the discharge of official responsibilities. Student leaders elected to serve the students were left unable to effectively perform their duties because resources meant for the operation of the Union were not made available through proper constitutional procedures.Several documents and initiatives intended to facilitate the smooth functioning of the Students' Union Government were also reportedly withheld from approval, creating unnecessary obstacles to governance and administration.For over eight months, no SUG official received any form of welfare or remuneration from the administration. While student leaders continued to make sacrifices in service to the Union, there was little evidence of concern for their welfare or the effective functioning of government.The Senate further observed a pattern of poor consultation and inadequate collaboration with other arms of government. Important decisions were reportedly taken without sufficient deliberation, while the principles of collective leadership and institutional accountability were repeatedly undermined.Another matter that concerned the Senate was the administration's failure to establish proper institutional engagement with the university management. Since assuming office, the administration never led an official courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, a basic engagement expected of a functioning Students' Union Government.It was also reported that funds were collected from members of the executive council for the purpose of facilitating such engagements, yet no courtesy visit was conducted and no satisfactory explanation was provided regarding the funds collected.The Senate therefore concluded that the administration had failed to meet the expectations of leadership entrusted to it by the students of Ebonyi State University.This impeachment was not an act of hostility. It was a constitutional response to persistent failures in governance, accountability, transparency, representation, and leadership.As Senate President, I want every student to know that the Senate acted carefully, responsibly, and within the powers granted to it by the Constitution. We did not act in haste, and we did not act out of personal interest. We acted because the interests of students must always come first.Students deserve a Union that speaks when they are facing challenges. EBSU SUG Senate Passes Vote of No Confidence, Moves to Impeach SUG President

The Senate of the 27th Assembly of the Students’ Union Government, Ebonyi State University, has issued a notice of impeachment and vote of no confidence against the President of the Students’ Union Government. In the notice seen by Studentsdash, the Senate said the decision was reached after a duly constituted sitting of the House, following several petitions and complaints submitted against the SUG President. According to the document, the petitions were said to have come from the Office of the Chief Judge, Honourable Justice Igboke Chidera G., the Secretary General, Comrade Ogbonna Chukwudi Egwu, the Directorate of Welfare, Comrade Mbamoke Kenneth, other members of the Executive Council, and concerned stakeholders of the Students’ Union Government. Studentsdash gathered that the allegations raised against the President include gross misconduct, abuse of office, financial impropriety, dereliction of duty, and failure to properly discharge the responsibilities attached to the office of the SUG President. The Senate stated that, in line with the principle of fair hearing, the President was formally invited to appear before the House to respond to the allegations and defend his conduct in office. However, according to the notice, he failed to honour the invitation and did not provide any satisfactory explanation for his absence. Following his failure to appear before the House, the Senate said it proceeded to review the petitions, reports, evidence, and submissions presented before it. Some of the allegations listed in the notice include the collection of ₦17,000 each from eleven members of the Executive Council for a proposed courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, without the said visit being carried out and without satisfactory accountability for the funds collected. The Senate also alleged misappropriation and unauthorized expenditure of Students’ Union Government funds, as well as failure to account for the sum of ₦600,000 reportedly granted to the Students’ Union Government by the University Management. Other allegations include repeated expenditure and authorization of union funds without due approval, proper documentation, or financial accountability. The Senate further accused the President of failing to convene and preside over Executive Council meetings for a period exceeding six months, which it said affected the activities of the Executive Arm of the Students’ Union Government. Studentsdash also noted that the notice listed inaccessibility to elected officers and stakeholders, failure to discharge official responsibilities, and taking unilateral decisions without proper consultation or approval from the appropriate organs of government. Another allegation raised was that the President allegedly organized programmes and attended functions outside the state without the approval of the Senate, including an arrangement involving SUG Presidents from the South East and South South to pay a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor without informing other SUG officials. After considering the petitions and findings, the Senate said it determined that the allegations amounted to gross misconduct and a serious breach of the trust and confidence reposed in the office of the President by the students. The motion for impeachment and vote of no confidence was moved by Distinguished Senator Ereke Precious and seconded by Distinguished Senator Abba Goodluck. According to the notice, the motion was deliberated upon by the House and was adopted with more than two-thirds of the Senate members present and voting. Following the resolution, the Senate declared that the President no longer enjoys the confidence of the Legislative Arm of the Students’ Union Government. The Senate therefore passed a vote of no confidence in his leadership and resolved that he be impeached from the office of the President of the Students’ Union Government. The notice also directed him to immediately hand over the affairs of the Students’ Union Government to the Vice President and cease performing all functions attached to the office of the President. He was further directed to return all Students’ Union Government and University properties, documents, records, and other official materials in his possession within forty-eight hours of receiving the resolution. The Senate warned that failure to comply with the resolution may attract further constitutional and administrative action. According to the document, the resolution was made pursuant to Chapter IV, Section 39(1) of the Constitution of the Students’ Union Government, having satisfied the constitutional requirement of legislative consideration, quorum, and the approval of not less than two-thirds of the members of the Senate. The notice was signed by the Senate President, Marvelous Elochukwu, and the Deputy Clerk of the Senate, Ekagu John. EBSU 2026/2027 Post-UTME & Direct Entry Screening Form Now Available

The management of Ebonyi State University has announced the commencement of the 2026/2027 Post-UTME Application/Screening Exercise for UTME and Direct Entry candidates.This is to inform the general public and all candidates who chose Ebonyi State University as first choice and those willing to change to EBSU, and scored 150 and above in the 2026/2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), to visit the school portal and complete their Post-UTME registration with full details of their credentials.The application period starts on 22nd May, 2026 and ends on 22nd June, 2026.Candidates are expected to pay a non-refundable fee of ₦2,000 only for the Post-UTME screening exercise.Important Information for CandidatesApplicants are to note the following:Candidates awaiting NABTEB O’Level, WAEC (May/June), and NECO (June/July) 2026 results are eligible to apply.Inconsistency in names is not acceptable and may lead to disqualification. Names on O’Level results, JAMB results, and other documents must be the same.Candidates are not required to appear for physical screening.Admission status will be communicated through the EBSU portal.Candidates must upload their O’Level results on both the EBSU portal and JAMB CAPS before they can be considered for admission.Any admission offered must be accepted on JAMB CAPS within two (2) weeks, otherwise it may be withdrawn.Direct Entry CandidatesAll Direct Entry candidates who chose EBSU are also required to undergo online screening. Difference Between GST 105 And EBSU-GST 105 Explained By Studentsdash

Many students have been confused about the difference between GST 105 and EBSU GST 105. Studentsdash has noticed that a lot of students register the wrong one, especially during course registration or when they want to buy materials. So Studentsdash is explaining it clearly to help you avoid mistakes.First, Studentsdash wants all 100 Level students to know that the correct course to register is EBSU GST 105. If you are currently in Year 1, the course you should register is EBSU GST 105, not GST 105. Studentsdash advises students to always check the course code carefully during registration so they do not make errors that can affect their results.Secondly, Studentsdash explains that GST 105 without the “EBSU” is mostly for 400 Level students or students who had a carryover in that course from previous years. That means if you are buying materials or registering courses, Studentsdash advises you to confirm the correct code before proceeding so you do not mistakenly register the wrong GST.For 200 Level students, Studentsdash also wants to clarify something important.
